Introduction of HBL:
Habib Bank Limited HBL is a Pakistani multinational bank located in Habib Bank Plaza, Karachi, Pakistan.
Founded in 1940 by the Habib family, HBL became the first commercial bank in Pakistan. In 1951, it opened its first international branch in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
In 1972, the bank moved its headquarters to Habib Bank Plaza, then the tallest building in South Asia. The government nationalized the bank in 1974 and privatized it in 2003. HBL has a large stake in the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) in Geneva, Switzerland.
As of 2018, HBL has 1700+ branches spread across more than 25 countries across four continents. It is the largest company in Pakistan in terms of assets and has been repeatedly ranked as the top Pakistani company in Forbes Global 2000.
